  • Benjamin’s Bookshop is planning to open in downtown Salida in the Spring of 2026.

Joining today and buying online helps support that goal and gives the community some excitement, which selfishly makes me so happy.

  • First, until we open the physical shop, you can purchase books anytime, online.

All you’ll need to do is come in to enjoy a warm and vibrant place of browsing through lots of new books. Find some nice used ones too. You might even see some local Colorado authors and fun Salida-style books.

Look for a place to sit and sip award winning coffee. We have tea if that’s your thing.

Relax to some music or tune out with your own headphones. If you’re a bit more social, group around a table and add to the noise of laughter, conversation, or maybe a creative debates.

Find some gifts, games, and other art supplies you’re used to from Juniper and buy yourself (or someone else) a little something.

  • We are a small & independent retailer. That means, everything you see was purchased first, with the hope you come in to buy it for a little more than I did.

Amazon not only buys in insane bulk (with options to return what they don’t sell), they choose to lose money on every single book sale in hopes that they can sell you thousands of other products over your lifetime.

I just want you to enjoy a book and a treat.

  • Bookshop.org is a company that partners with independent booksellers so you can buy any print book and ebooks. I can make a little money without the need for an entire online bookstore operation.

All you do is make sure you are shopping my bookstore-front. You’ll see my name and logo in the top left corner. Search a book, add to cart, and buy. Simple.

  • Libro.fm is a company that partners with independent booksellers to support our audiobook customers.

You can purchase audiobooks a la cart or through a listening-membership just like Audible. But now, Libro.fm shares a little revenue with me.

Get the app for iPhone or Android today and enjoy.

Books I’m digging or have dug, lately

Atlas of Unknowable Things

A fun creepy read written with lovely prose and catchy dialogue. Gotta love a satisfying ending too. My first of McCormick’s books.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Series

Matt Dinniman

The one that started it all! If you are a nerd of any kind that grew up with video games, D&D, or any zany sci-fi - read this whole series and giggle while you do it. Matt self published first, continues to write on Patreon, with Book 8 coming soon. His talent at capturing a wild story that seems completely relatable is worth your time. We’d all hope to watch an intergalactic battle royale reality show someday.

The Power Broker

If you like books that sound unreal and full of detail that feels like the most interesting documentary, read this. Take your time and savor the history and drama. There is so much about local government we cannot understand. Is the main character a genius-protagonist or a terrible-villain? I still go back and forth.

Shantaram

One of my favorite books of all time, and one of the only books I’ll re-read. Another story that just can’t be real and yet was written on pieces of scrap paper while the author was in prison. You’ll find the most beautifully fulfilling cast of characters with arches that are better than fiction. The sequel is worth the pages too.

The Bookshop

I was gifted this beautiful, fun, and quaint book about how and why bookshops became a big deal. If you like a good historical recounting of a history you didn’t know you came from - get a good cup of coffee and enjoy.

Figuring

Like all things Maria, she has written a lyrical work of intellectual history. It’s like reading poetry, prose, and history at the same time. Her book explores the interconnected lives of various historical figures—primarily women, artists, writers, and scientists—across four centuries to examine themes of love, truth, and the human search for meaning.

I love this book as a gift to other readers.

John & Paul A Love Story in Songs

Ian Leslie

Ian Leslie is one of my favorite writers. Not a novelist, but a journalist and contemporary author with a wonderful Substack and Podcast. He loves music, is obsessed with The Beatles. So of course, I bought this for my father for his birthday.

He can give you a better review, but if you love music, The Beatles, and stellar writing (very engaging), then pick this up…and find Ian on Substack.

Raising Hare a Memoir

Chloe Dalton

This gem of a book is my favorite from 2025. It moved me yearn being in nature, the wilds. And just observe. If you don’t cry and feel uplifted at the same time, you’re dead inside.

Can you believe Chloe worked for politicians? Her writing is amazing and beautiful.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil

V.E. Schwab

Boy oh boy, do I love V.E Schwab. She writes wonderfully dark fairytales. And in her latest novel, I was not expecting a beautiful love story across hundreds of years. One can almost smell V.E.’s landscapes and cityscapes.

Everyone should try this one.

Hello and Well Met!

Benjamin here,

Benjamin’s Bookshop was made to serve as a third place in Salida that starts with sitting comfortably and reading for as long as your behind can take.

I want you all to come in to spend time together, share ideas, opinions, projects, and love one another.

Maybe you’ll meet a new friend and have a laugh when they are reading the same book you are.

Relax. We’ll always have good music playing, hot comfy coffee and tea, and books to drain your bank account.
